PATHE PICTURES.

PALMERSTON DISTRICT TO BE

PHOTOGRAPHED.

THE SQUARE AN ATTRACTION.

Mr W. Ffanklyn Barrett, who is touring New Zealand taking moving "pictures for tho Parisian firm of Pathe Freres, was a visitor to Palmerston this morning. Mr Barrett resumed his journey . to New Plymouth by the midday express, but he has aranged to return to Palmerston in about a month, when, under the guidance of an old friend, Mr H. Muller, manager of the Opera House, he will take pictures of the Square, the Tiritca intake, Kahuterawa and Manawatu gorges, and other scenic attractions in this district. Mr Barrett informs us that the Square, with its beautiful gardens, fountains and artificial lake, particularly attracted his attention, and the very best picture possible will be taken of this portion of Palmerston. He proposes 'to take the picture of the Square from the Post Oflive just as a train leaves the railway station for Terrace" End, and the camera will be swung so as to include every portion of the Square. Needless to say the pictures will be a fine advertisement for Palmerston and it is to be hoped the Borough authorities will co-operate with Mr Barrett so as to give him all the assistance in tHeir power.

Mr Barrett has juefc concluded a tour of the Southern Lakes district. In returning from Nelson to Wellington he obtained a fine picture of "Pelorus Jack," the strange fish for whose appearance every visitor to the Pelorus Sound watches. On this occasion "Jack" gave two fine displays of a quarter of an hour each, and Mr Barrett says the pictures will be among the most interesting and valuable in his collection. While in New Plymouth Mr Barrett will photograph the oil works, and upon leaving that town he will proceed to North Auckland for views of the gum industry and to Rotorua for pictures of the thermal region^

It was Mr Barrett's intention to take pictures of the hemp industry at Makerua yesterday, but on arrival at Shannon he found that the date was unsuitable for the manager. However, Mr Barrett will endeavour to obtain the pictures on his return to this district, and will also visit Foxton for a similar purpose.
