A peculiar accident occurred at Mr G. F. Nott's joinery works at Armidale last week. The driver of the' big 50-li.p/ engine, which propels numerous pieceas of machinery, had just started his engine, and luckily only a few of the wood-working machines were running, when suddenly the ..governor got out of gear, and the cn'gine immediately raced. Before its terrific speed could be. checked, the large driving wheel, oft 6in in diameter, and three-fourths of a ton in weight, How into a hundred pieces ■with a report as of -a cannon. The fragments wrecked everything in their couree, some being found hundreds of yards away. Fortunately no one was in the way of the dismembered wheel, and the only person to suffer was a youth named Percy Whatman, who paid a hurried visit to the roof, and reached terra firma again much shaken, but otherwise uninjured. In all.about £100 worth of damage was done to ,'the machinery.
