RE "ELECTRIC."
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —"No case, abuse the other side," and with all my pigheadedness and density I am yet transparent enough for my friend "Electric." Commonsense. practical statements are too much for his digestive organs, so he compares the beautification of a town as an argument in favour of greater unproductive expenditure. Does he not know that even the beautification of a town or city ought not to be greater *than the ability of its ratepayers to stand? And it will be a long time before Palmeretoa North can stand such an expenditure on beautification as the amount expended this year. However, "Electric " can now have the field to himself, as I question if the public are getting much benefit from the arguments.
I will just close with the definite and concrete statement that a revenue of £10,000 per year from a tram service means over seven thousand penny rides per day, six days per week, without a break through the whole year.
Also, that if a hen and a half can. lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how many geese will it take to incubate twelve young turkeys from a sitting of swan's eggs?—l am, etc., B. FRANKLIN.
