DAMAGES FOR LIBEL.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 1

The case in which Thomas W. Arthur, formerly employed at the Wellington Zoological Gardens, sued Albert E. L. Bertling, keeper of the Zoo, for £501 damages, was concluded at Wellington to-day, after three days' trial. The plaintiff had resigned from the service of the Wellington City Council to take up a position at the Queensland Botanical Gardens, and defendant had written to Mr J. Beard, secretary of the Brisbane Zoological Gardens, stating that plaintiff had been discharged for gross incompetence, neglect and mischief-making. The jury, awarded the plaintiff £100 damages with costs.
