KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the Kairanga. County Council was held to-day. There were present: —Messrs Vosa (chairman), Bryant, Moody, Anderson, O'Loughlin, Tallott, Mayo,. Collis and Batchelar. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was received: From the Treasury stating that £12 lis, the balance of the Pahiatua road grant, had been, remitted to the Council's credit. —Received. From the Receiver of Land Revenue stating that the deferred thirds amounting to £11 18s 4d on the Range road had been remitted to the credit of the Council. —Received. From the Department of Roads, asking if the Council would pay £6(X), being a £ for £ subsidy on the Government grant of £600 towards improving the Gorge road. From same. declining to pay £300 for past work on the Gorge road as claimed by the Council. —It-was re ported that the Council had been distinctly informed by Mr W. T. .Wood, lato member, that the £300 had been placed on the estimates.—Decided that the chairman, secretary, Messrs Buick and Field, M's.P., and W. T. Wood wait on the Minister with regard to the matter of the £600 grant. From the Borough Council stating that the Kairanga County Council would be consulted before any large amount was spent on the Fitzherbert bridge.—Received. From the.Hospital Board notifying that the levies,for the current year would be £691 os 9d for the hospital and charitable aid and £30 14s 7d for the Infectious Diseases Hospital. —Received. From the Oroua County Council, asking for / suggestions with regard to the opening ceremony of the.Gorge bridge, it having been suggested that his Excellency the Governor should perform the ceremony.—The Council will agree to pay a reasonable share of expenses incurred. 1 From J. Innes thanking the ■ Council for his appointment as so-1 licitor.—Received. i- From same stating- that a caveat t had been lodged on the Council's be- ! half against an application by Harri- ' son Bros, for a title to 39 acres 20 perches, being river accretions abutting section 455, Palmerston North. . and that a prior caveat had also been lodged by the Crown. —Received. From "Garnsey and Gascoigne applying for a refund of rent and rates paid for the road adjoining thenleasehold at Awapuni. —The clerk to assess the rates and make arrangements accordingly. From R. P. Knudson applying for a refund of the road rent for the Kairanga end of the BunnythorpeKairanga road. —Agreed to. From J. A. McLeavey asking permission to straighten the entrance to his front gate at Stoney Creek and fr,-r about 20 loads of earth to be taken from the nearest bank on the Te Matai road.—Left in the hands of the Councillor of the riding with power to act., From W. W. Wilsher asking for permission , to dig a drcin on the roadway along his fences on the Kelvin Grove road and James' Line. — Left in the hands of the Councillor for the riding with power to .act. From C. J. Monro calling attention to the dangerous state of the road at the lower part of Monro's hill and asking that fence be erected. —Fence to h& erected. From J. F. D s Hewitt calling attention to the dangerous state, of the Kaliuterawa road. —Councillors for the riding to inspect the road. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer reported for the various ridings •as follews: -—Fitzherbert: —In the eastern portion of the riding the staff was engaged in repairing the roads. Similar work had been done in Fitzherbert West, including repairs to the approach to the Kahuterawa bridge,! He suggested that a stable and fence be erected at the bridge with the timber obtained from the decking of the Fitzherbert bridge. Taonui.—General road work had been carried out by the roadman. The works now being carried out by the Drainage Board at the Bunnythorpe-Kairanga road would be detrimental to County's road if the spoil were not kept clear of the metal. Mangaone.—General road work had been carried out. The drain on Cameron's . Line would be cleaned out in the course of a week or so.—Adopted. TREASURER'S REPORT. The treasurer reported that the various riding accounts were as follows : —Taonui.—General rates £1506 15s lid, collected £1501 12s Bd, outstanding £5 3s 3d; general special £149 19s, collected £149 lis 3d, outstanding 7s 9di cr. balance £114 is' 4d. Mangaone.—General rates £1855 7s id, collected £1850 17s lid, outstanding £14 4s sd; general! special £92 13s Bd, collected £92 9s 4d/ outstanding £4 9s 2d; general spe18s Id. Fitzherbert.—General rates £1762 lis Bd, collected £1748 7s 3d, outstanding £14 4s sd; general special £110 7s Bd, collected £109 Ss Bd, outstanding 19s, dr. balance £1491 ;7s sd. There were £8 10s 2d special rates outstanding.—Adopted.
