BOROUGH FINANCE.

The following report an borough financial matters has been prepared by the Town Clerk for submission to the Borough Council: — I have to report, that the year ]ust ended has been a very successful one so far as the collection of rates andrents is concerned; the outstanding rates for the 31st ultimo amounting, to £73 13s 6d, owing by thirteen ratepayers. One ratepayer owes £J» 2s lid and another one £15 Is lid, and I have obtained judgments for both these amounts. The, j others are very small sums and I have not pressed for them so far as they belong to the second half-year, and the ratepayers interested have not been in a position to pay. I expect to have the whole of the rates available collected during the current month. The total rates collectable were £17,782 7s 2d. Of the rents, which amounted to £1,065 9s 4d, the sum of £14 17s 5d is outstanding—the amount being owing by one leaseholder. The outstanding ledger accounts amount altogether to £101 13s 4d, of which £86 9slod is owing by the Railway Department and local bodies—the demands for the month of March were apparently, too late to be passed by the bodies to which they were debited. I hope to have these amounts also' in hand during the current month. The Opera House, after paying all charges including interest and sinking fund, shows a profit of £95 18s 9d for the year.
