FOOTBALL.

As ,the Manawatu Rugby Union holds its annual meeting next Tuesday, it behoves all local clubs to get their meetings off this week in order that their delegates may be appointed. We understand that Mr A. N. Gibbons will not stand this year for the position of president, and his decision will be received with regret in Rugby circles, as the retiring president was an indefatigable worker, and has an extensive knowledge of the game. Mr Harry Muller also intimates that he will not again seek re-election, a fact which will also be received with regret. The Palmerston Club meets to-night at the Opera House supper rooms, when Mr H. F. Gibbons, the president, has consented to occupy the chair, and a large attendance is expected. The club's balance-sheet shows a healthy state of affairs, the position of the club last year having been the best for a long time past. The senior team took the field with a full' team in every _match during the season, a feat that it had not previously accomplished for many years. The juniors were runners-up in their competition, only losing the championship by half a point They, however, annexed the seven-aside tournament, and also defeated Lincoln College. Six of the seniors were included in the Manawatu representatives during the season. There is a credit balance in 'hand of £20, rather a remarkable bal-ance-sheet for a football club.
