S.M. COURT.
PALMERSTON— MONDAY. (Before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Three first offenders for drunkenness were convicted and .discharged. Two female first offenders were similarly dealt with. Samuel Law was charged by_ A. Perrin ranger, with having permitted twocows to stray on the borough streets. Mr.Cooke, who appeared for the Borough Council" stated the cows had been frequently, impounded and were a source ,o£ Annoyance. A. Perrin"; gave, evidence as to having, impounded the cows on various occasions. ■ \ Defendant was .fined ss, costs 7s, solicitor 'e fee £1 Is. H J Woodfield (Mr Cooper) was charged with allowing eight horses to stray on the borough streets. Defendant pleaded not guilty." Mr Cooper stated that defendant, who was absent at the time of the offence, had given express orders that his horses should not be allgrwed to etray on the streets. He held that defendant could not be held liable for an act of disobedience by the man he had left in rharso. Defendant, was fined 10s, costs 7s, solicitor's fee £1 Is.
