The Dannevirke Press gives the following description of the match between Palmerston and Dannevirke for the Dixon Cup: — The mueh-talked-of match for the Dixon Cup eventuated on Wednesday on the Dannevirke green, arid attracted a large .number of spectators and many ladies, the latter evincing- a keen interest in the game. The green was in capital order, and was very favourably commented' upon by the visitors. The game was expected to be a keen one,- and it proved so. The teams were as follows: —Challengers—Palmerston: Innes, Pickering, Hodgins and Tasker; holders —Dannevirke : Farrow, Spence, Potts and Bartlett. Dannevirke scored 18, and Palinerston 15. . • , Palmerston scored two on the first head, and added a single ou the second. ' Dannevirke scored- a two on the third heard, Palmerston replying with three in the next two heads. On the sixth head Dannevirke added two, and a three on the seventh. Palmorston were lying five, but Bartlett cut them out of three, and Dannevirke scored two on the ninth, and three on the tenth head. Palraereton notched one on the eleventh head, then Dannevirke added a single in the next three heads, the scores on the , fourteenth head being Dannevirke , 15, Palmerston 9. Palmerston then settled down to business, scoring on the next five heads, making the totals 15 all on the nineteenth head. Potts drew the shot on the twentieth head. On the last head Palmerston drew two shots near the "kittie." Pott's failed to shift them with a running shot, but Bartlett "came to light" with his first bowl, and put Palmerston's two shots out, and Dannevirke" lay three. Tne Palmerston ek-ip failed to alter the position, .so Dannevirke retains the Cup. - Messrs Innes and Pickering played exceedingly well for Palmorston. Messrs Farrow and Spence, for Dannevirke, did not seem to get going at all, both play- ■ ■ ing much below their usual form. Potts at times was well on the jack. Bartlett played well in the latter stages of the game, saving a four and a five, and his cutting out of Palmcrston's two lying shots on the last head won the game for Dannevirke amidst much excitement and applause. At the conclusion of the game the president (Mr George VWratt) congratulated the winning team on holding the Cup, and hoped they would still continue to do so. He also congratulated the Palmer sto^-,team on the fine fight they, had' made tp'gain the Dixon Cup. Messrs Tnsker "-Hftd Bartlett suitably responded. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs T. Xi.
