BOXING.
(By " The Jolt.") Hollo has expressed himself to the effect, that he is particularly anxious to gain the verdict over Tracey in the glove contest they are engaged in at the Palmerston Opera House next Thursday night, for more than monetary reasons. He explains that in Sydney Tracey lias a reputation for being possibly one of the cleverest boxers in the world, and in support of this contention it is pointed out that Tracey, with practically no opportunity to become proficient in ring craft, held his own with such past masters of the game as Hock Keys and Bob Turner, when he met them within the roped arena at the Wellington Opera House. Since doing so Tracey has had considerable experience in glove contests, and has won each of the many he has entered for, to all intents and purposes, unextended. He is now at his best ; but how good that best really is has yet to be fathomed. This will be done on Thursday night, for Rollo, with his Australian, South African, and English reputation, is calculated to try out to his utmost any living lightweight. The fact that in the encounter between Rollo and Tracey the greatest fistic event transpires that has taken place in New Zealand since the days of Slavin, Laing, Murphy, Pettengell, Matthews (Dick), Fake, and a host of others escapes the average boxing enthusiast, but the fact remains.
