i SECOND EDITION.
The Foxton Herald says; —"Thismorning we had the pleasure of wishing 'many happy returns to Mr Osbornc, sonr., whom we believe to be Foxton's oldest resident, on attaining his 82nd birthday. We were under the impression that Mr Cummerfield, senr., was our oldest citizen, but Mr Osborne informed us that ho saw the light of day thirteen months before Mr Cummerfield. Of course, this does not imply that Mr Osborne is' the oldest, resident, as his arrival in this district dates back a j little over a quarter of a century. Any- j how, the old gentleman is prepared to j undertake a 100 yds sprint with men many years his junior, and when he called at our sanctum this morning he was as healthy and _happy as the proverbial sandboy." Mr Osbornb, senr., of~Foxton, is the father of Mr E. Osborne, of Palmerston North. Scientists are working diligently to discover a rust-proof breed of wheat of a prolific t.voe, and there seems to "be a prospect of ultimate success.
