The biggest tomato patch in the United States, if not in the world,, is in Clark; County, Missouri, just south of the Dcs Moincs River. In this patch there are 170 acres of tomatoes, and it is exactly a mile in length and about one-third of a mile in width. The"rows, if stretched out in a straight line, would extend for almost 100 miles. ' ~ One needs to go to Holland to find" the mid-European time comedy at its best. If you want to travel by, say, the 9.15 train, io a town five miles away, you start out by Greenwich time, but should you arrive at the station to see the train steaming out, you walk leisurely to the canal pier and catch the 9.15 boat. The boat people pin their faith on "Amsterdam" time, which is fifteen minutes later. The tourist finds himself constantly losing and finding stray quarter-honrs. This writer got over the difficulty. by carrying two watches —one screwed up to Greenwich, and the other relaxed to Amsterdam. The chief post office officials compromise matters by adding an extra pair of red coloured" hands to their clock, and thus make the< • best of both worlds.
