LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 26. Despite the fact that under the new Land Laws Amendment Act preference is given to applicants who are landless, the number applying for Crown lands thrown open for selection is in no way lessened. Applications closed at the Auckland Lands Office yesterday for an area of 16,993 acres open for selection, and tho total number of applications received was 700. The land in question is situated chiefly in the Kawhia and Waitomo Counties. The Land Board sits on Monday morning .to consider the applications, and on Tuesday a ballot will bo taken, preference in all cases to be given to those who are landless. _ -
