UNEMPLOYMENT.
IN BRITAIN AND GERMANY. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Per Press Association. LONDON, March 24. The Tariff Commission has issued a report dealing with industrial conditions in Great Britain and Germany. Comparing the membership of trade unions in Germany, which is put down at 1.435,000, with the British membership of 639,000, the Commission finds that the percentage of unemployment in Germany at the time of its investigations was 23.5, while the average for the Avhole year was only 11. In Great Britain, however, the percentages were 61.1 and 41.5 respectively. In-door paupers in England and Wales in January numbered 8000 more than in the same month of 1907, and 40,000 beyond the average for the decade. There were 6000 more out-door paupers in January last than in January, 1907. or 28,000 more than the average for the decade.
