TE ORANGA HOME.
Per Press Association CHRIST CHURCH, March 24. The Te Oranga Homo enquiry concluded yesterday, when evidence was given by Mr R. H. Pope, in charge of that branch of the Education Department which dealt with industrial schools, etc. Mr Pope said that the To Oranga Home was well equipped for the comfort of the inmates, but more buildings were wanted. The Department took an active interest in the progress of each child. The Department had been averse to haircutting, and only agreed to it in two drastic cases. The Department was also averse to corporal punishment if it could bo avoided. A better classification would bring corporal punishment down to the minimum. Power should be given to retain incorrigible girls in the Home until they were 25. In his opinion the results of the training at the Home were truly wonderful. The Commissioner will report to tie Governor.
