PERSONAL.

Mr C. A. Pownall, Masterton, who is engaged at tho present sittings of the Supremo Court here, is staying at tho Club Hotel. We regret to record the death oi, Mr and Mrs H. Griggs' son Claude, Which occurred suddenly this morning. Deep sympathy will bo felt for the parents i;i the sad loss they have sustained. Mr G. .V. Moore, of Kai Iwi Station, who took his horse Dusky Morn to Australia recently, passed through Palmerston last night by motor to Wanganui from Wellington City. Miss Beatrice Day and the members of Mr Herbert Flemming's Comedy Co. arrived by the express this morning, and open at. tho Opera House to-night in '"The Mummy and the Humming Bird." Mr Flemming arrived yesterday to complete arrangements for the opening. Miss Tittell Brune returned to Australia from England tho other day. She told a Sydney Telegraph representative: —" I have been away on a six months' holiday, during which time I have enjoyed u, nmch-rcquiied rest. The only wo>k I had to do was some preparation for my appearance in Melbourne on Easier Monday. In England 1 mot Mr liarrie, who was pleased with my work, said he was entirely satisfied .that 1 should satisfactorily place 'Peter Pan' before Australian audiences. Speaking of audiences, I must say that, those in Australia are the best in the world. I mean that Australians are the least artificial and the most human people 1 have i met. They laugh or weep more readily than either the English or American audiences. They take their theatres more solidly in England. People there wander in when the performance is half over, and lose tho thread of the plot as well as disconcert the performers. I ,".m very glad to return to Australia."
