AMUSEMENTS.

HERBERT FLEMMING COMPANY. THE MUMMY AND THE HUMMING BIRD. Mr Herbert Flemming's new English Company will be the next attraction at the Opera House. *' The Mummy and the Humming Bird" will be presented here for the first time on Tuesday night, and in addition to a cast of characters ernbracing several well-known on the London stage the actor manager has devoted special attention to the mounting of the play. The whole of the furniture, scenery and appointments have been imported direct from London. In introducing his latest venture to the colonies Air Flemniing has striven to worthily uphold the excellent reputation made by Mr Brough and himself in past seasons. Headed by Miss Beatrice Day the new company will, it is expected, compare most favourably with former ones that have visited this country under Mr Flemming's auspices. The box plan is now open at Paik's.

WIRTH BROS.' CIRCUS. Wirth Bros.' Circus will arrive in Palmerston North and open on Friday, March 20th, for one night only. The proprietors have thoroughly reorganised their show, somewhat on tho lines of the big American concerns, but with this difference —that whereas the American circuses charge separately for admission to each department, the one charge will admit to all the whole show. Wirth's combination, which consists of seven departments—society circus, menagerie, museum of freaks, vaudeville, hippodrome, huge elephant herd, and "the grand pageant of the Durbar of Delhi." A number of artists who were recently engaged from abroad will appear, including Herr Batty,, in charge of Hagenbeck's, a fine wild animal act. The act consists of six full-grown lions performing together, with a number of leopards, bears, and a couple of boar hounds, forming tableaux and a most exciting and mixc.d-up/ finale. Hagenback has tho largest Zoo in the world, and breeds his own wild animals, as well as buys all the available animals in India and Africa. He supplies nearly all tho zoos in the world with animals and birds, and he has a huge training quarters near Hamburg (Germany). This act is the acme of wild animal training, for he makes .tho animals perform together feats that would be marvellous for dogs or _ cafe to perform. It is tho best turn Wirths' have over imported.
