LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
Pnr Press Association. ' CHRISTCHtJRCH, March 16. Proceedings in connection with the roinpulsory acquisition of Culvorden Estate opened to-day before the Compensation Court, of which Mr Justice Denniston sat as President, with Mr W. McFarlane (for the trustees) and Mr J. Remiie (for the Croivn) as assessors. A claim.' for compensation was made by Edward Cephas, John Stevens and Ronald Macintosh Mac Donald, trustee? under the will of the late Sir John Cracroft Wilson. The whole block which is being' acquired by the Government 'comprises 25,155 acres, and total amount of the claim is £162,037. Mr T. W. Stringer, K.C., with him Mr T. G. Russell, appeared for claimants, and Mr D. M. Findlav, with him Mr J. A. .Cassid". for the Crown. Evidence was given by several witnesses in support of the claim.
