The Melbourne Age states that a sensational scene, involving the selfdestruction of a girl, was witnessed one evening recently at North Fitzroy railway station. At about seven o'clock a girl, well dressed, of quiet manners and refined appearance, walked on to the station and stood on the edge of the platform, looking down on the line. She was noticed by the stationmaster, who was attracted by hor contemplative demeanour. A little later, as the 7.43 train ran in, two girls, named Mabel Hannah and Minnie Kindole, saw the unknown girl jump down as the engine approached, and deliberate place her head on the outer line, at the eame time extending her arms at full length. The desperate action was done quietly and without any excitement on the girl's part, but the onlookers, who were naturally frantic with excitement, screamed in horror. The stationmaster and others ran on to the platform, but it was too late; the ponderous engine had crushed the poor girl's head to a pulp, and one arm, which with a convulsive movement was thrown across the line, was severed near the elbow. The body was taken to the morgue, but nothing that would reveal the girl's identity coiild be found. She was apparently nineteen years of age, of dark complexion and hair.
