From inquiries made it transpires that the rumour as to a mishap to Elevation was without foundation. After the colt's brilliant performance at Awapuni it was decided to give him a brief spell, and he was put out of work for nearly a fortnight. From his first gallop after the rest he pulled up stiff. This, however, was merely the consequence of his doing no recent work, and at the present time he is perfectly sound. Arrangements, says " Glencoe," have been made for Ele : vation to leave for Melbourne on February 7t,h, in charge of his trainer, J. Farmer, and he will there undergo his preparation for the Newmarket Handicap. Farmer has always managed to land his charge at the post fit and well, so that should no unforeseen accidents occur, the son of San Francisco and Stepfeldt is sure to give a good account of himself in his Australian engagements. Sydney papers now to hand furnish particulars as to the engagements of New Zealand-bred horses at the approaching autumn meetings. The following is a list of the engagements made: — Newmarket Handicap (six furlongs)— Elevation, Dusky Morn, Pink-'un, Munjeet, Equiform, Seddon, Grenadier, Maranui, Captain Shannon. Australian Cup (2i miles) —Apologue, Master Delaval, Seddon, Putty. Champion Stakes—Apologue, Master Delaval. Doncaster Handicap (one mile) —Elevation, Cross Battery, Maranui, Seddon, Equiform.
