The assault is alleged to have j taken place in a two-up school. I PAHIATUA, June 10. A man named John Beaufort, a , surveyor, was found by two men at ( the foot of a staircase about ten o'clock on Saturday night, evidently having fallen down stairs. He was conveyed to the hospital, and the doctor summoned, but the man died at eight on Sunday morning. Deceased leaves three grown-up sons here, his . wife and two children being in America, and a daughter in Australia. An inquest is being held. AUCKLAND, This Day. The Nautical Court's decision in connection with the collision between the Rotomahana and Kestrel absolved the Kestrel from blame, and ordered the Rotomahana to pay costs. In the collision between the steamer. Kanieri and ketch Dawn the Court apportioned three- quarters of the costs to the Dawn and one-fourth to the Kanieri. The Court did not deal with the certificates, these being the first cases in which the harbour regulations were in question. The Court expressed the opinion that Article 25 of the collision regulations, relating to narrow channels, applied to the Auckland harbour entrance.
