DEATH OF A JOCKEY.

MELBOURNE, June 9. A chapter of accidents occurred at the Oaklands Hunt Club meeting held yesterday. Three horses fell m on© race, one having to be shot. The jockeys Cosgrove and Trainor were injured. Mr Mac Donald, .an amateur rider, had his collarbone broken in anothei'_ event, wjiile Hogan, a well-known-jockey, was killed by a fall in the Bolinda Steeplechase. AUCKLAND RACES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 8. The Auckland Winter meeting was brought to a close to-day in splendid weather and with a good attendance. The sum of £18,523 was put through the machines against £15,743 10s on the concluding day last year. The total for the present meeting amounted to £50,923, compared with £43,986 10s in 1906. The winning double to-day, Uenuku and Loch Fyne, returned £804 6s. Results: — Tamaki Steeples.— Silica 1, Mawhiti 2, Reporter 3. Scratched: Yolette. Time, 4min 22sec. Divs., £3 4s and 14s.

Campbell Hurdles. —Cuiragno 1, Nestator 2, Creusot 3. Scratched: Evenlode and Le Beau. Won by a length. Time, 3min 51sec. Divs., £9 15s and £1 18s.

Fitzroy Welter. —Waitati 1, Dan Leno 2, Freemoxint and Octoroon (dead-heat) 8. Scratched: Delegate, Sabine, The Dane. Won by two lengths. Time, lmin ISsec. Divs., £14 9s and £1 Is.
