LABOUR TROUBLES.
THE MARITIME STRIKE. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright* (Per Press Association.) Received June 3rd, 8.46 a.m. PARIS, June 2. The strike paralysed the shipping at Marseilles, Toulon, Havre, Bordeaux, and other ports, depriving Paris of colonial produce. Torpedo-boats and transports are conveying the mails and perishable produce from Algiers and Tunis. The British companies are arranging for an entire Channel service i if the Calais-Dieppe boats are with- | drawn. THE RAND STRIKE. PRETORIA, June 2. Mr Botha, replying to a deputation of Rand strikers at Pretoria, said two Commissions had been appointed, and the Government would give effect to their reports. If the superintendence of three machines proved to be injurious to the health of the men, legislation would follow. The deputation assured Mr Botha that they would not object to the military if protection against Chinese and natives were the only reasons why they were introduced.
