ARBITRATION AST.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Speaking at the send-off luncheon to Mr Belcher, the Seamen's Union delegate to the Maritime Conferonce at London, Mr Tregear, secretary of the Labour Department, referring to the disappointment recently suffered by two branches of the seafaring world, said that, without wishing to in any way appear to be blaming the Arbitration Court, he had very great sympathy with the men in one or two directions. He added:-—-"There would have to be definite instructions given by the Legislature, by which it should make sure that ail Act was provided in some direction making it clear on what basis the minimum wage, or any other wages, was to be computed. If there was to be no profit-sharing, on what basis was it to be? He had not the slightest doubt that Parliament would soon have the matter presented to it in a manner which would arouse the deepest interest ,and the matter must be made clear."
