Bush and Log Fires.
[Per Press Association.]
DANNEVIRKE, This "day,
The heavy gale yesterday developed the renewal of bush fires. Some settlers on the western side of Dannevirke were again up all night saving their houses. The road bridge at Mangatera, costing about £100, was destroyed. Information has just reached town that a heavy fire is raging in the Piri Piri block, and that Bartholomew's sawmill has been burnt out. Several families who lived at the mill have also been burned out, and the whole of the Matamau township is in danger.
