How the Russians Were Beaten.

During Thursday's dust sto<m the Japanese advanced their batteries nearer Mukden, and otherwise improve! their positions.
DuriDg the height of the fctorm an uncanny stillness prevailed The city streets were deserttd, and shops were shut.
The Russians evacuated Mukden on Thursday night, leaving the lights of the town burning in: the houses to deceive the Japanese.
The Eussians marched along the road on the east side of the railway at first orderly, but the rapidity of the pursuit, and the difficulty cf advancing under a heavy fire frcu. both flanks, s ;on caused stampedes and wholesale abandonment of stores, guns, and waggons. At dusk on FriJay the rearguard reached Santaitze, when it was thrown into great confusion by the sudden onslaught of the Japanese cavalry, who threw hand giensdes.
