Apiti.

(From our own Correspondent.)

The weather, though it has been bad enough, has not been so severe as in some parts. We have had a heavy downfall of ram but no gales or wind with it. The roads have suffered considerable damage through slips. On the main road leading down to Apiti bridge no less than twenty-seven slips came down within a distance of two miles. Traffic was also suspended for a short time on the Coal Creek, ApitiNorsewood roads and the road leading into the Marton block.

It is with regret that I have to record the death of an old resident, Mrs Brown, who died on Saturday night. A number of farmers are anxiously waiting for the weather to take up in order to commence shearing operations.

Tenni9 players availed themselves of the fiDe day on Saturday to have a game. There were a goodly number of ladies and gentlemen present, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The opening cf the new courts has been postponed until the weather is more settled.

On Saturday the members of the Mounted Rifles fired the final competition for Mr Tout's cup. Corporal Millett was ♦?>. successful competitor. A la MX nd representative meeting was helc^l he Hall on Saturday night for the purpose of trying to induce a medical practitioner to residp in Apiti. Mr Matthews was voted to the chair. The chairman explained the terms of J?r Gregory, M.A., M.8., 8.C., F.R.CS., L.RC.P., of Wellington, and a resolution was carried to the effect that the meeting considered those terms satisfactory. A medical guarantee association was formed, hnd a strong committee elected. Mr Millett was elected secretary.

I understand a cricket match is to be played here next Saturday between teams representing the Apiti and Table Flat Cricket Ciubs.
