The Kowhai Floods.

(To the .Editor.)

Sir,—According to the habits of the wild grey duck it appears we are likely / to have some serious floods in thisdis-/ tript shortly. I have often heard of their building their nests in cabbage trees, but yesterday I was startled by a fluttering up in the branches of a white pine; it was owing "to a grey duck getting but of a tussock of Ki-ki fifty feet. from the ground. I would like to see howtho parents- are going to get the ducklings safely to the ground or. the river. It will have to.take place soon after they are hatched. They will not be able to fly and the parents are/not likely to feed them till fledged.—l am, etc., "A ■■■■•■
