THE POLAND-CHINA.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I noticed in your report of the entries for the forthcoming Show you stated that the Poland-China is new to the colony. You will pardon me, I hope, for correcting the. statement. I have cured them myself in Wanganui 22 or 23 years ago, and I saw them in Christchurch 28 years ago, but, owing to their excessive fat in proportion to lean, the breed was not looked upon favourably by the curers of the colony. There is no known breed that matures so quickly as the Poland-China, and I have always maintained" that, if it was possible to get a smaller strain of Tamworth to cross with them, we: should have an ideal pig for "More Pork,", or any other brand of bacon. In the midland counties of England they were1 kept almost exclusively for the purpose of supplying suckers for the table'and, porkers.—l am," etc., - ; \ ' \ ' ■: ';—- ■ B.C. NoEbL.
