Eeceived July 29, at 9.20 a..to. LONDON, July 23. The Japanese, on Satin-day, claim to have attacked live divisions which were defending the hills so.:th of Tashichiao, extending for ten miles from east to west frpm the railway. The position was fortified with one hundred guns. The strongest point was Tafipin/;--Img mountain, south-east of Tashichiao.
Saturday was spent in developing the Russiau position and strength. ° There was a prolonged artillery duel on Sunday, but finding the local position prevented the lire being effective, General Oku halted and prepared for a night surprise. Suddenly, at ten o'clock, the entire Japanese right was hurled at the Russians.
' r^^'e . f rst position, east and west of Taipingling, was easily captured. The second position was attacked at midnight. At dawn the -Japanese occupied an eminence to the oast of Shanshitung, and seized Shanshihang, without resistance. They pursued tho Russians towards f as'aichiao.
It is estimated the Japanese caual ties were SOO.
