The Premier having recently expressed an opinion favourable to the extension of the elective principle as applied to land boards, Sir William Steward intends testing his sincerity. The mem-; ber for Waitaki has introduced a Bill providing for a certain number of elected members on land boards. Under the Bill the boards shall consist of the Commissioners of Crown Lauds ex officio, two members to be nominated by the Crown, and three to be elected by the electors resident within the land district. It is proposed that .they shall hold office for three years. The elections are to take place concurrently with the county, elections. Probably when the Bill reaches its committee stage an attempt will be made to, extend the elective principle to the whole of the members, with the exception of the Commissioner m each land district.
