Empire Day.
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) London, May 25. The newspapers widely comment on the spreading observance of Empire Day, noteworthy for the Canadian Society's dinner at London and the laying of tlie corner stone of the University of Ottawa, when Cardinal Gibbons referred to the world wide veneration for Queen Victoria's memory, and the Pope cabled his sympathy. Children's gatherings were held at Gibraltar and Malta; also at St. James' Hall and Epping Forest. The latter organised a fresh air fund for poor East End children.
