AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
The Labour Party in Australia are chuckling over the non-success of the Deakin and Eeid parties in arranging a basis for coalition, The longer the negotiations are continued the greater the difficulties become, and in the meantime the Labour Ministry are doing their utmost to gather additional strength by inviting the waverera among the opposition parties to join them. The failure to arrange a coalition is not the fault of Mr Deakin or Mr Eeid, but is entirely due to jealousy among their followers. At present there seems very little hope of the latter uniting, and the Watson Govercmsnfc will continue in office and endeavour to carry out the reforms which they have so long advocated. It has not yet beea proved that their suggested reforms are those best suited to the needs of the Commonwealth, and we shall ba surprised .if they do not awaken to the fact that the task before them is exceedingly more difficult than they anticipated.
