A Sensational Escape.
The sensational escape, of a- convicted murderer recently occurred in the North-west Territories writes the Canadian- cocrespondent of the Ota-go Daily Times. Ernest Cashel had been condemned- to the scaffold for killing a rancher, and ho was on the eve of 'his execution. He was in a cell at Calgary, guarded by three men of the mounted police. His brother came to bid him farewell, and it is .supposed handed him two revolvers. His cell door was opened for the purpose of the interview, and soon after the -departure of the brother Cash-el -appeared before the constables, revolvers in- hand. He commanded them to throw up their hands, acid, knowing him to -be. a 'desperado, ' they complied without delay. He walked coolly to the ■door,, where a horse was in waiting, and ma-dc his escape. Tac incident, is without a parallel in Canadianhistory. The brother of the con-'demne-d man has been arrested tor complicity in the escape. The constables have had to .stand their trial, and q-je was given a year inprison aivtl the . other two six months each.
