♦ The regular meeting of the above was held last evening. Present—Messrs G. S. Bridge (chairman), J. W. Baker. E. Dixon, F. M. Spurdle, R. A. Adams, F. Y. Lethbridge, M.H.R., p. Pirani, and liev. J. Ross. Cash statement—General account, credit, JE1426 Os lid; building account, ordinary, debit £939 16s 3d; special, in hand, £461 2s lid. The Chairman reported the following appointment had been made since la.-* Board meeting:—Waverley, C Macdonald, transferred from Wanganui Girls' School, vice S. J. Poole, appointed relieving teacher temporarily ; Wanganui, Girls', J., Whilton, transferred from Hunterville; Hunle:ville, T. X. Lancaster, College street, appointed; Taihape, S. Cambridge, Kimbolton, appointr.dvice F. S. Tilurston, resigned. APPOINTMENTS. The following business was done -in committee :— Castlecliff.—-Miss G. L. Parkes appointed mistress. Mangaweka—Miss E. Buckley, appointed mistress. ,Foxton—Miis A. McDonagh, appointed mistress. ' Lytton Street—Miss O. M. Stace, ap-' pointed misfress. . Wanganui—Mr N. G. Armstrong, appointed assistant. Hurleyville—Mr T. A. Blyth, appointed head teacher. Rawhitiroa—Mr G. Lyall, appointed head master, Taikor.ea—Special application to be made to the Department for an assistant and the hardship of the case be explained. Absence—lt was decided to ask Messrs Aitken (Wanganui) and Law (Manaia) to explain the reason why they were absent last week without leave m accordance with the regulations. Tokorangi—lt was decided to ask Mr McEae whether his barn would be re- ' quired afrer the 31st March, as in that ease the school would be closed. .Himatangi.— An application to change the name to Oroua Downs could not be acceded to, as it would cause confusion with Oroua Bridge and Glen Orona. Umutoi.—Application to change the name to Apiti-Norsowood road school held over, committee to be asked to suggest simpler name. The Building Committee reported as follows:-Spur Road.—Application for draining, filling, and metalling; no funds Imraukawa .— Will deliver tank at! Mangaonoho. Campbell Street—Fifteen desks refused. Pohonui.—Jensen's tender (£227) accepted for school. District High School, Palmerston North.— Arthur's tender (£3S) accepted for cupboard, locker and benches. Longburn —Architect instructed to have necessary repairs niade to residence. Terrace End.—Account referred by Board to Buiiding Committee, not authorised, cannot be paid. Upper Kawhatau.—Mr Yenables informed that the Board does not recognise any liability for Li 3 cow poisoned by licking school paint. Stoney Creek.—Government will not provide funds for residence._ Furniture sent to Auroa, Upper Taonui, Kaitoke, and Umutoi (Norsewood.. , Lmton.—Architect instructed to call for tenders for additions to residence. GENERAL BUSINESS. National Scholarships - It was decided to award national scholarships to Henry G. Brodie, Wanganui Boys' School, 618 marks, and Annie M. Anthony, Whakamara school. 420 marks. The latter was awarded to schools under 40. Inspector-General to be asked to approve of last mentioned'attending Dannevirke High iVchool. Technical—'.[he Department forwarded a set of eight casts of fish common to-New Zealand and Australian waters for the Wangamti Technical School and four casts each xor Palmerston and Hawera. ■•;■■■ Lunch Hour—ln reply, to the Man^aweka Oommictee, it was decided that head teachers must make arrangements forproper supervision of the playground mjuneh hour. ,' Lytton Street, Feilding—Mr Lethbridge to interview Minister re urgent necessity for additions to school, Uiiku—Commutes to be irformeS thac application had baen ruada lor grant lor school. Himatangi— Building Committee authorised to spend an amount noli exceeding £5 on repairs. . Scholarship—S. Lissaman allowed a year in which to take up senior scholarship. Sandow System—lt was decided to authorise the Chairman to take steps to have Mr GarJiok's school classes recog.nised, and to apply to the Department for a railway pass for the instructor. In the,event of this not being possible, the Chairman to bring up a recommendation in reference to a subsidy, from the Board's funds towards the classes.1
