Show Dates.

At the meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association to-day Messrs Burnett and Perrctt, delegates from the Wanganui A. and P Association waited upon the Committee relative to the question of dates for the forthcoming A and P. shows held by the two 'Associations. Mr Perrett said it was understood this Association had selected the dates usually taken by the Wanganui Association, and if such was the case they desired the Manawatu Association would consider if it was not possible to allow Wanganui retain the dates previously held by them. They had no desire to clash with this Association, considering- it the duty of each Association to assist cash other (hear, hear) and he felt sure the Manawatu Association had no desire to clash with them. He asked if it was a fact that Manawatu had selected the 18th. 19th. and 20th November for their show! and on being informed hy the President that it was so. reiterated the desire of his Association that the dates would be altered. His Association considered the shows should follow each other, starting with Manawatu, and then Wan«-a" urn, Ha worn and New Plymouth it would be in the interests of the whole of the Associations if such a system could be carried out Jhe present question was in the hancts of the Association, and if they could strain a point the Wai<ganui Association would be very grateful. ■ ■

Mr Burnett said they were all agreed i.n:it jro cojidUft sin.pVs on t!i"'~!v:«* and "\y ost Coast economically and to^uir exhibitors wis that the neural order should be ta-en, commencing with tho«on tae other yideof the mountains Oie sfiasons were .-arlier and ending with jN ew Plymouth. So far as their s-how was cr.iu ; err:r.,-l Hiiwei-.-i h-ul writ:en sfit^ they iviA retained fheir date. : the veek aHei- the dates decided upon br ?>lannw;itn. The alterations would necc^t-'U tne carriage haul; and forward of -™j e men's, stock, etc.. nhir-k was not ecciiomieal and R^\ usl the interest of the 'h'>ws penally. L, lvgar a ; 0 the freonmt ch'in-M o^ d.-ites his A^ocuiuounderstood that that th« Conference meetiiiß m Wellington in July would b« the dales, of shows and they were agreed tlmt it wns a wissvep. He thought thi* Association muse recognise that they h:td :i .*-iev.-. c - as regarded the dates and he "lioped" it wouldjie amicably arranged. Air \Viieek'i- said lie was verr p'.e^eu to have me opportunity of showing the dflbgal.es they had been misinformed on tne question of dates. He handed the delegate..; :i ccy.y of the rules and drew ti.-ir attf-at:on to rule 17, which set out tnat 3. i .:in;i-.vjitu should follow the we-]----utter Canterbury. TJio dates o£ th's show were therefore dependent upon the dates selected by the latter, and they it appeared were dependent upon the dates selected by the C.J.C.. a fact to which he Inougut all the trouble could be attributed The Later hud taken the dates usfore the 9th Kot. and the Cmteroury A. asd P. Association had to -iko those following the 9ck. List year, when there was little timeto consider the question, Manawatu had to show in the same week as Christchurch, ling year the 9th fell upon a ulonday, and the southern show would ™m tlia Wednesday. Thursday, and Friday following. Munau-nu followed a week later, the IStU, I9:li, and 20ta. He pointed out to the delates that their rule had been to i'ollo-.v Manawjitu, and tins Society hud no intention of takins; auy'one's date and a perusal of the rule" would show" the delegates this Association was oniy carr.ying our, its own rule as for several years past. Replying- to Mr p. j. Nathan, ZUr Perreit stated Hawera ]iad informed them they had selected the same dates as last year. ! [ The President pointed out the Ma- j nu.wa.tu rule had been in force since ISOS- ! j Replying to Sir Hocider, who de- , sired to know it" Wangauui had had their dates fixed for any number of years, Mr Burnett said last year was the first time they had held a two day's show. Previous to th-'t it was on the third Thursday in November, the week following Manawatu. Mr Wilson pointed out it was necessary for stock to come here and depart in the same week, consequently the dates could not bo earlier m the week selected. Mr Perrett said his society had the same diiliculty, but dates had always worked well before. Mr Wheeler said it seemed the delinquent was to be found in the North and Mr Perrett replied that if all Associations would go back a week in their dates all would be satislied. Mr Stuckey said it was proposed to deal with the difficulty at the Conference in Wellington in June or July by endeavouring to fix some basis to work on. The A. and P. Conference, unlike the Racing Conference, was not yet in a position to have anything it recommended

carried out by A. and P. Association^ He thought if the dato o£ the Chnstchurch show could be deiinitely fixed there would be no difficulty afterwards. The whole difficulty arose through the alteratioa oi the Christehureh date year !>v year. Mr J. M. Johnston considered the aiiiiculty might bo overcome by the Hacing- Conference forcing the G J G. to alter its dates. Mr Jacob having stated this Association had no intention of jump- . ing anyone's dates , Air Pern tt thanked the committee for the courtesy extended to them, and for the information afforded. I'hev should have seen the rules previously, they placing a different aspect upon the matter. The President said it had been thought possible to hold our show before Christchureh, but a leUer had been received from the .Carterton Association, stating they had selected the 4th and sth November. There was, therefore, no i.in>e tor OUI . dates tQ come jn betwosn . Christchurch and Cartcrton. He and the committee were very pWsSar? T + et + Khe dclcSates. * (Hear, r ,/",^ the same t»nw> they regretted tne clashing of dates. " Th-v would do their best to obviate it In sending delegates to the conlerenco upon the question, the' only way lo reincdy tho trouble -he Committee was not in any antagonistic to the IVangam.-i 4s•socianon and wished it every success.
