At a inoeting of tbe Opposition party this afternoon, Mr Maseey, on behalf of the party, mado a presentation to Messrs Pirani and nutcheson, who aro retiring from activo politics. The formor received a gold watch, and tho latter a silver fash and desßCrfc service.

Mr Mas.ey said tho Opposition dosired to express their appreciation of the food work those two gentlemen bad dono whilo thoy hid been mombers of the House, Thoy had earned a colonial reputation as ken, ablo, and earnest politicians, and honest and straightforward men, which thoso who bad been associated with them know that they thoroughly deserved. Mr Pirani, in reply, said ho had only dono what ho deemed to be his duty, and he was very pleased t_ know that his actions had tho npproval of tho?o with whom he was associated, and of thoso who had sont *i;*ti there. No ono felt inoro than ho did tho pang of leaving politics, but ho trusted in the near futuro he would be able to return again to politics. Mr Hulckeson said if at any other lime he could seek the suffrages of his fellow-citizens, whon he was net in a position to know hope or fear, ho believed his destiny would bring him back into politics. Sir William Rus.oll expressed the hops ihat they wore only temporarily parting with Mr Pirani and Mr Hutcheson, whoso health was then drunk in bumpers. - Sir William Russell aho banded to Mr Jas. Allen, a handsome silver flower va=e, as a present from the Opposition party to Miss Allen on tho eve of her marriage.
