A CRUEL PUNISHMENT.

August Boehm, a shoemaker, served fifty years' imprisonment ior murder in Germany. Lust May he n-as released on condition that he le[t Germany for good. He was then seventy years old. He went to America and made a little money. .Last month he returned to Germany and lived at the village of Waetershausen. After he had been there a few days tho police arrested him for coming bick without leave, and he has now beeu sent back to prison fo* the rest of his days. LONG AND LAST DRINK Tho right to sell liquor in Hunt County, Texas, expired ou August 13th, at midnight, and prohibition went into effect at that hour for the next two years. Three men named Austin, Jackson, and Dowey determined early in the evening to " drink whisky until the last minute under the lan'." The men were standing in a farm wagon. Just before midnight Austin raised a bottle to his mouth, saying as he did so, "Here goes the biggestdi ink ever taken in Texas." Ho took a long " pull" at the bottle, with his head bent backwards, and the .next minute toppled over dead. A FORGIVING HUSBAND. A young woman named Dervqux was sentenced to one roar's imprisonment in Paris for throwing vitriol over her husband, from whom she was about, to bo divorced. The injured hmbaad, however, pleaded for her, and she got the benefit of: the First Offender's Act. Sbo threw herself at hot husband's feet. " Forgive rnel" she cried. " I could not boar to thick of you being in another wotnan'B arms," She was released anl lefo the court on the arm of her husband.
