A sensation was canned in the .city yesterday afternoon by the report of a murder and suicide.

It turned out to be nothing serious, but yet of interest. For some" time an individual has been in Nelson professing to come with, a lucrative appointment in connection with certnin local works of magnitude He hired a houso for six months, arranged for furniture, hired traps aud hlso became engaged to a young lady, who, on the strength of. the coming marriage, resigned her situation and even went to the leugth of planting trees and shrnbs in her new house.

Yesterday, however, the near relations of the girl, who had heard something, went to the suburb and demanded more bona fides from the intending bridegroom and asked for explanations of certain allegations to ihe effect that he was a married man seeking a divorce from his wife and hod received rations from the Charitable Aid Board with a form of order for three days on a local boarding house, where he remained three weeks. When confronted the man put his hand in his iiockot and drew out something metallic, which seared his questioners, who communicated with the police. The constable went out and arrested the maD, but found in his Ipossession a bicycle spanner with a knob resembling a pistol. The man was therefore released. The marriage, of course, has been broken off and much sympathy is felt with the young lady, but also concongratulations on her escape.
