Death of Mr J. F. Clapperton.
It is with deep regret we have to announce that Mr J. F. Clapperton died at Feilding yeßterday afternoon. The deceased gentleman, who was a son-in-law of the late Mr Bell, the former proprietor of the Dunedin Star, was a banker by profession, and for a number of years was the manager of the Union Bank of Australia at Palrnerston North. Some years »go he retired from active work after a long period of honourable service, and has since lived quietly in private life. The late Mr Clapperton had many warm friends nil over tho colony, who will hear with interißo regret of his demise. Tho. deceased gentleman had reached the age of 65 years, and in addition to his wile he leaves one son—Mr Frank Clapperton formerly of Linton—and two daughters —MrsJ. M. Johnston, of Palmerston. and Mrs F. F. Haggitt, of Feildino—to mourn their loss.
The news of Mr Clapperton's death was comrejed to Palmerston by wire to Mr J. M. Johnston last ovoniag, tho information being gmn that the death had been sudden. ■ Tho deoeasod gentleman returned from a visit to Japan in Marob, and eineo then ho had been attacked by influenza, but the members of the family had ua idea that his health was otherwise aft'eotod, and the sad news will como as a groat shook to them. The laU Mr Clapperton, who was ono of tbe proprietors ot the Dunedin Star, was an enthusiastic bowler, and one of tho first inembors of the Palmorston Bowling Club A press- wire from Feilding to-day states that failure of the heart's action was the cause of Mr Clopperton's death
