The Medical Practitioners' Registration Act, 1b69. Amendment Bill (Mr| Laurenson), and the Native and Maori! Land Laws Amendment Bill (Mr Carroll) , were introduced and read a first time. Mi Fisher moved for leave to introduce the Electric Lines Act, 1884, Amendment Bill, which deals with matters affecting the Press Association. He said he hoped tbe Government would take up tbe Bill. He .poke at some length, explaining the Bill was designed to give every subscribing new.-paptr a share in ihe administration of tbe Association and to aboli'h the entrance f^e. Mr Hom-sby seconded the motion. Mujor Steward objected to the waste of timo that would be involved in further discussing the question, and ho moved tbe adjournment of the debate, wbich was lost by 39 to 13. In the course of further disoussion Hon Mr Hall-Jones said he hoped some action would be taken in regard to the Press Association nest sp.Esion. The motion for the introduction ot the Bill was agreed to on the voices, and the Bill was read a first timo The report of tbe Public Petitions Committee on the petition of James Smith, of Pahia'ua, was brought down. It recommended tbat he be paid ___0 in refund of money paid by him as a member of the Wellington Defence Force whicli took part in the Tarariaki Ma.ii war. In the course of a lengthy discuss:on several members urged that tbe claims of old soldiers should receive further consideration from the Government. Tho Hon Hall-Jones promised tbat Smith's case would be considered before the Supplementary Eetimatos were framed The report was ordered to lie on the fc-ble and be referred to the Government for consid .ration. Sir Joseph Ward gave notice to introduce the_ Pharmacy Act Amendment Bill, the Law Society Ac* Amendment Bill, and the Companies Act Amendment bjh. The House met at 7.30. The Post and Telegraph Classification Act Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor's message, and read a first time. ' The Land Transfer Act Amendment Bill, and Manual and Technical Instruction Act Amendment Bill wero read a second time. Tho Old Age Pensions Act Amendment Bill passed its final sfc-ges. The ameadmems made by the Legislative Council in the Mining Act Amendment Bill were agreed to, with ' the exception of those in clause 8, relatl iog to the Arbitration Court award, and nours oi labor underground. Tbe Accident Insurance Companies : Bill was read a second time. A lengthy debute took place on the i motion for tho committal of tbo Land i Titles Protection Bill, which Mr Carro.l stated was necessary in the interests of the Maoris, and ol the colony generally.
