WHERE HAS IT GONE?.

The mysterious manner in which money disappears from the coffers ot the colony has long been the subject of comment, useless comment, perhaps, while the blind faith of so many in tke Seddonian administration continues, but nevertheless it is the duty of those who believe in purity of administration to not to shrink the exposure of ways which are dark and tricks which are vain in our politi«al life. Last year Mi* Seddon. loudly trounced those who administered the funds raised at Home for tlie relief of the relatives of men kihed in the South African war on the ground that while largo sums of money subscribed in the colony were transmitted Home to theso funds, not a penny had been sent to the colony toward deserving cases. In fact, r Seddon wrote 'to the Otago Patriotic Committee on 22nd July, 1000, stating that "not twenty pence hadbeen returned, and in ray opinion never will." At that time Lloyds' Patriotic Fund Committee had forwarded Mr Seddon £600 for distribution, and the Kipling Committee had also sent £500. Apart from the unla'tr reflection on the authorities administering theso funds, the remarkablo fact has transpired that no acknow ledgoment, of the receipt of the money by the Government has ever been forwarded to them, nor has it ever transpired what has been done with tho money. „If. rumor is. not a lying jado, the full derails of the expenditure of these trust funds wttuld make interesting reading, if they would not astonish those who place such implicit faith n tho Seddonian administration.
