A Political War.

Capo Haytien (Hajti), June 29. There has been muob fighting here today, and great excitement prevails. Admiral Killick, commandor of the Haytien fleet, disembarked a further detachment of troopa and a large quantity of ammunition at 4 o clock this morning for the better protection of General Firmin, orre of the candidates for the presidency of the Itepublio. Since sis o'clock this morning there havo been soveral lively engagements between men from the fleet and revolutionists from the north. Several machine guns were set up in a commanding position by General Firmin's force, and an attempt was made to drive men from the north from their positions. Notwithstanding' the fire from tho maohine guns, a detachrnonfc of northern revolutisnists made several attauks on General Firmin's followers, and tho latter were eventually dislodged. Meantime vessals under the oommand of Admiral Killick were bombarding Oape Haytien. This afternoon, at the moment of filing this despatch, the foreign Consuls, under tha protection of their various flags, are with General Firmin, and arc about to embark on the Government gunboat Pierot. ■• There was an excellent muster at the battalion parade *of the Palmerston Volunteer* last night, Lieut. Morgan being in oommand. At the conclusion of the parade, it was announocd that in all probability a numbar of the local corps would be required to aot as a guard ot honour to fa.ii Exoellenoy the Governor on the oeoasion of his visit to Palmerston North on Tuesday next.
