"But I've got no bag, said Mr. Gninwood The detective then asked Mr Grimwood to write the signature ".Urown 8r05.," and he did ro. Comparing this with the sifinature on the cheque, the detective declared the two writings to be so much alike tbat none but an expert could distinguish between them, and he thereupon altered the charge to ono'of misrepresentation by writing." In spite ol his protestations, Mr. Grirawood was locked up from Ipm. till 7.39 p.m. Then his unpleasant position became known to his friends, and he was released on bail, ite was presented at the Collingwood court on Thursday, and remanded for a week. In the meantime Messrs Foy and Cribson took the precaution to communicate with Brown Bros., of Boort, and a reply came that one of the brothers belonging to the firm was in Melbourne, and his address was given. Inquiries at {he specified aJdross elicited that Mr Brown was there, also the bag which he had purchased, and that the cheque which he had paid had pasßed through and been honored in due course Since discovering the blunder they had made, a representative of Foy and Gibson has been out to see Mr Grimwood, tendering, of course, profuse apologies.
