(Post.) RETURNED TROOPERS' LOSSES. A question wbb put to the Acting Minister for Dafeneo by Mr Pirani on Friday as to whether any inquiry had been held as to the loss of certain articles by returned troopers at Somes Island. It was, ho contended, only dua to the men that they should have an opportinty of defending themselves agaiost the acoutations made. Tho Miuistsr (Hon. W. Hall Jones) said he had not done with this matter. He had obtained reportß on tho subject, aad one or two articles had been found, and he had taken stops to try and roeoyor them. The matter wonld not etop thoro. EDUCATION MATTERS. The Minister for Education was waited uponon Friday by Messrs Pirani and Lethbridge, M's.H.R., in connection with certain educational matters. Among other thingi they pointed ont that under the present system teachers loat the amount of exchange on their cheques l'o' salaries. The Education Boards usej to pay this exchange, but the Government did not follow that plan. The Minister promised to see what could be done in tho matter. Tho deputation aUo asked that drill instructors should be provided for schools, and the Minister said ho was communicating with the Education Boards asking them to recommend instructors for the Government to appoint.
