From the Sydenham Borough Council, enclosing a resolution passed at a conferonco of local bodies to tho effect that the methods adopted by tho Government Valuation Department for compelling rovmug tho valuation rolls of looal bodies aro cumbersomo and inefficient, find tho cost out of proportion to tho scrvico rendered.—The Board agreed that the cost of such rolls was oxcesaivo, but had no other cause of complaint. From 0. P. 0. Roo, Kawa Kawa, asking for on extension of the take-off from tho Aorangi Bridge to his fence.—Referred to Engineer. From agent of Commercial Union Insurance Company, stating that the accident rate to local bodies was 10 per cent. Mr Goodbehere, agent of tho Oceon Company, offered samo rate and some refunds on provious year, and obtained the busin'sa. From D. Thomas, Hiwinui, asking tho cost of survey and transfer of land for deviation of road through Messrs Greenhow's and Bobbie's farms. From Milverton and Son, offering to give uso of road roller at tho rate of 45s a day, the Board to provide fuel on a guarantee of fivo years' work for throo months' continuously, namely, June, July, and August of each year. As it was estimated that tho cost of fuel

would be 10s extra, it was considered by tho Board that the expenso would be too great to undertake. Tho Board then considered a suggestion of tho Engineer to place 18-inch tyres on a traction engino for the purpose of rolling. Messrs Milvcrton's price was £1 14s a day, Mr Boazor's .£1 16?, and Mr Spencer's .£1 Is, this prico to include service of experienced driver. It was resolvtd that the Engineer obtain the necessary plates to convert Mr Spenctr's engine into a road roller. From Owen C. Plensants, re gateway as promised to Mr Darragh on Sorrenson's road. From James Laing, Colyton, drawing attention tc drain in Iront of his place. From John McDonnell, drawing attention to tho spread of sweetbriar. It was resolved that if tho rents for enclosed roads bo not paid by the 25th February, the Engineer shall havo tho fences removed.

The tender of F. H. Vile, for supply of dog collars, was accepted, and the aceeptanco of tender for collection of dog tax was lolt to tho chairman and warden.
