LINTON RIFLE CLUB.
The Linton Bifle Club opened' their, range on Wednesday last by holding \a competition for/trophies presented ty: several business linns ..of; Palmerston.After Captain Hewitt had made a neat, and instructive speech, the range was formally opened by Mrs G. Craw firing the first shot and registering a bulls-eye/ Considering ; that most of the members had never, fired on 'range before and several had never even "fired a rifle, some very fair shooting; was done. The following are the prize-takers :— ; Beginners' Match, 400yds.—S. Young 22, F. Hewitt 21, A. Amnor 15, W. Jackson 11, •;■'.■ :■'■:■ :■'•' ..■ '■ ' .-■; ' Handicap Match, 500 and 600yds.—J. Kemiard 63j G-. Craw 58, S. Young 58, B. Eix 56, H. Alters 54, C. O'Hagan 53, F. Hewitt4B. \ . '■■•:. :. ■ A Visitors' Match for a cup presented by the Club was won by Mr W. Bankin with a score of 27. ' ■ 700 yds Match.—H. Akers22, G. Jonathan 22, C. O'Hagan 21, B. Eix 19. In the shoot off between Messrs Akers and Jonathan, the former proved the winner. The best shot for all ranges proved to be J. Kennard, who also registered jubst bull's-eyes. :. : :. The range is situated on Mr Bix's property, and the members of the Club -wish to thank him for the use of the ground. in. the evening a ball was held in tho Linton hall, and, though the inclement .weather interfered • with' the: attendance, those present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The thanks of the Club is due. to the ladies who "so kindly provided lunch on the range and to Mrs Kendall and her assistants, who had charge of the supper-room at the ball. During the evening the prizes were given out by Mr W. P. Kendall.
