Auctioneers in Protest.

Auctioneers have risen in protest against some of the provisions of the Land and Live Stock Auctions Bill, which has passed its first reading in the House of Representatives this session. They particularly object to clauses 2 and 5, which provide that the auctioneer is to name the vendor and last bidder, whether the 'land is sold or not, and that the vendor must not, bid or employ an agent to do so. At a meeting of Wellington auctioneers held a few days ago resolutions were passed to the effect that the proposed amendments are uncalled for, unworkable, and inimical to the interests of both vendor and purchaser; appointing a deputation to interview the Minister in charge of the Bill (Hon T. Duncan), and directing that reasons for objecting to the Bill be drawn np and circuited amongst the auctioneers in other parts of the colony.
