Wellington. July 27. Frank "Ki^g and Joseph Kerr, who temporarily escaped from custody a few days ago, were sentenced to six months' imprisonment from the end of their present terms. .-. •'

George Elliott died, in the hospital this morning from injuries received on the 9th inst through being jammed by a log rolling off a truck at Akatarawa, near the Lower Hutt.

Judgment was given iv the Arbitration Court to-day upon the charge made against a pork butcher of infringing the award by employing a non-unionist in a business which he had lately bought. The defence was that he was not bound by the award as he had acquired the business since, it was made. Justice Cooper supported this contention and dismissed the case, holding that subsection 3, of section 86, of last year's Act, only, applied, to an award made under that Act.

At the Police Court a labouring man, John W relsh was sentenced to twelve months hard labour for" assaulting his wife and using obscene language. The Magistrate described the accused as worse than a beast.
