TEMPERANCE EEFORM.
The resolution carried on Tuesday night, " that the problem of temperance reform can be best dealt with at the present time by the elimination of private profit from the sale of intoxicants," had been forwarded to the Premier by the Synod, and Bishop Wallis read a reply from the right lion, gentleman steting that the conclusions arrived at by the Synod will be submitted to his colleagues in due course, and will receive most careful and earnest consideration. The reading of the letter was received with applause. GENERAL OHUECH FUND. V The returns of the.General Church Fund showed the total estimated receipts for the finanoial year ending 31st March, 1902, to be £8795 3s 10a, and the expenditure to be £8795. The proposed asssessmehts were as follows:—St. Paul's, £690; St. Peters's, £450 ; St. Mark's, £550; St. Thomas's, £250 ;. Petone, £210 ; Lower Hutt, £250 ; Upper Hutt, £100 ; Ftatherston, £85 ; Martinborough, £40; Greytown, £100 ; Carterton, £200 ; Masterton, £250; Tinui, £130; Eketahuna, £160; Pahiatua, £180; Mangatainoka and Pongaroa, £120 ; Karori, £150 ; Porirua, - £120; Pahautanui, £50, Otaki, £225; Levin and Shannon, £185; Foxton, £180 ; Palmerston North, £400 ; Pohangina, £90 ; Feilding, £275; Kiwitea, £155; Marton, £250; Silyerhope and Hunterville. £95; Mangaweka and country districts, £35; Christ Church, Wanganui, £475 ; Wanganui parochial district, £160 ; Waitotara, £130; Waverley, £60; Patea, £140 ; Hawera, £230 ; Normanby, £20 ; Eltham, £150; Waimate Plains, £190. The proposed grants in aid were- as follows :—Petone, £15; Upper Hutt, £50; Tinui, £45 ; Eketahuna, £20; Pahiatua, £40: Mangatainoka aud Pongaroa, £60; Karori, £25; Porirua and Panautauui, £10; Otaki, £15; Levin and Shannon, £15; Foxton, £20; Palmerston NortV and Pohangina, £60; Kiwitea, £15; Silverhope, Hunterville, and Mangaweka and country districts, £55; Wanganui parochial district;, £40 ; Waitotara, £50; Eltham, £25 ; Waimate Plains, £35 ; chaplain to hospital, etc., £200.
